Different herbs have different uses. Most commonly used for enriching the flavour or odour of foods, they are a key component of many of our favourite dishes from around the world.

To celebrate the amazing qualities of the herb families, the tranquil and

exquisite West Dean Gardens in South Downs will host ‘Wholly Herbs’ in recognition of their horticultural, culinary and medicinal uses as well as home, beauty-related and aromatherapy applications.

Activities will include demonstrations using herbs for dyeing, an insight into the way herbs were used by Roman apothecaries, guided tours with trained herbalists in the Gardens, explaining the uses of common garden plants, and demonstrations to help you grow your own herbs. All of this plus herb-laden conserves, jellies, sauces, Indian food, dips and sauces, recipes demonstrations, plants and seeds for sale, health and beauty products and locally produced food and drink – 17 & 18 May.
