Sheesh Mahal Revealed as Hottest Curry House in Wales

The Sheesh Mahal of Llanelli was named as the Welsh Curry House of the Year for 2008 at a ceremony held at Y Senedd, Cardiff  Bay, in March. An invited audience of representatives of the Indian restaurants in  Wales together with competition judges and sponsors watched the presiding officer and curry enthusiast, Lord Dafydd Elis Thomas, announce the winner of the competition.

The Sheesh Mahal fought off competititon from the 260 Indian restaurants all over Wales who were eventually whittled down to a shortlist of three, overcoming Asha Balti House of Llanwrst and the Nawab Tandoori Restaurant of Swansea at the final hurdle.

Presenting the award, Lord Dafydd Elis Thomas said, “The tradition of Indian restaurants here in Wales is now long-established and is part of the nation’s menu. The fact that we have 260 Indian restaurants in Wales is a testament to the popularity of Indian food.”
