Jamie’s Italian heads for America

Jamie’s Italian, the high-street restaurant chain founded by Jamie Oliver, is planning to open its first outlets in North America – reflecting the continued success of the concept in the UK.

The first few sites planned for the USA and Canada come in response to the continued screen presence of the chef on US television. Jamie’s American Food Revolution won an Emmy award for Outstanding Reality Programme in 2010.

Jamie’s Italian, which offers traditional Italian food, continues to go from strength to strength with 24 restaurants already open in Britain. Although not his first international venture – Oliver already has restaurants in Sydney and Dubai – this is his first attempt to crack the potentially huge American market.

The chef currently seems to do no wrong, with his most recent book, Jamie’s Great Britain, topping the Christmas book charts. This was his second consecutive year in the festive number one spot, following the success of Jamie’s 30-Minute Meals last year.
