Baraka Looks to the Future

Welsh food company, Baraka Foods has been celebrating after signing their first deal with a national supermarket chain and being awarded a £100,000 from the Welsh Assembly Government. Based at Gelli in the Rhondda, the company produces chilled and frozen meat-based meals as well as cooked and marinated meals, including sliced chicken, chicken wings and pork ribs.

A deal is now in place between Baraka Foods and Morrison’s that will see them supply their marinated cooked pork ribs, including their Jim Beam Bourbon Whiskey Ribs. The company also produce a Penderyn Welsh Malt Whisky BBQ Rib, to appear in Welsh branches of Tesco and Asda in the near future.

Baraka had specialised in the food service sector, but with assistance from Going for Growth – a Welsh Assembly Government initiative that helps companies to explore and adapt to new market opportunities – they have realised the potential of supplying the multiple retailers.
