The winners of this years Young Chef and Young Waiter Awards are both women.

Rose Green from Le Champignon Sauvage, Cheltenham and Sarah Cooper from The Ledbury restaurant, London were crowned the best chef and waiter respectively at a gala dinner held in London's Knightbridge.

Eight regional finalists battled it out during a day of cooking and serving trials. Each young chef was given a surprise selection of ingredients which had to be transformed into a three course lunch, served to four industry guests. The meal was then served by the waiter finalists.

Andrew Davis, chairman of von Essen Hotels, sponsors of the event, said, "We have no doubt that this competition really does reward and encourage the stars of the future both in the kitchen and front of house."

Nottingham's only Michelin-starred restaurant has been named as the forth best in the country, with head honcho, Sat Bains also taking the title of the Chefs' Chef.

Restaurant Sat Bains, in Old Lenton Lane, was recognised at Restaurant Magazines National Restaurant Awards - held at the prestigious Hurlingham Club next to the River Thames in Fulham.

Bains said, "Any restaurant is only as good as the people that make it all happen. We have a superb team in Nottingham and this latest accolade proves the effort and commitment we all put in."

Jasper Gerard writing in the Telegraph described Bains as ‘the most wildly inventive chef to emerge from Britain since Heston Blumenthal.' Only a few days earlier, the restaurant had received five rosettes in the latest AA Restaurant Guide.
