Chilli Raj Voted Favourite Local Restaurant

chilli_rajChilli Raj in St Albans has been voted the public's favourite restaurant at Oaklands College's World of Food Festival held last month.

Visitors to the festival, held on the lawns of the college's Smallford campus, had over twenty restaurants to choose from, with cuisine varying from Caribbean to Indian, but in the end, a family run restaurant,Chilli Raj, located on Stanhope Road, St Albans, won them over.

Kashim Abdul, who co-owns the restaurant with his brother and was brought up in St Albans, said: "This is such an honour for us and fantastic news considering the number of restaurants that took part in the festival. It also gives the staff a great boost for all their hard work and effort to be recognised by the public."

Mark Dawe, Oaklands College Chief Executive and Principal, commented: "The World of Food Festival was a great success and I am delighted to beable to give this award to Chilli Raj today."

 
Chai Corner Brings a Taste of the Mystic East to South London

There over 14 types of tea to choose from at Chai Corner: from Good Morning teas to fruit variations including peach and strawberry, to Asian fusion teas with cloves and cinnamon.  The establishment is decorated with tea gardens of the sub-continent in mind; huge murals showing tea leaf pickers at work and rich fabrics and furnishings bring a taste of the East, transporting customers to a more tranquil part of the world with Chaiwallas at your service.

There is also a wide range of Chai Corner branded merchandise and a selection of cakes, tea caddies, biscuits and preserves that can be bought to take home.

All food at Chai Corner is Halal.

Tender chicken breast marinated in coriander, mint and green herbs and slow roasted in the tandoor.

This stunning blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Sauvignon Blanc is bursting with citrus and gooseberry flavours. It is great to drink on it's own or as an accompaniment with fish or white meats. Try it with some goat's cheese too!

Breast of Gressingham duck pan grilled with spices and accompanied by a sauce of fresh oranges, fennel and cinnamon

Mas d'Intras Cuvée Ferdinand 2007 Vin de Pays des Coteaux de l'Ardèche
The Cuvee Ferdinand is a stunning blend of 40% Syrah, 40% Grenache and 20% Carignan.  It has been matured in oak barrels for 12 months and has a subtle flavour of vanilla and thyme.  This wine is delicious drunk on it's own or as an accompaniment to duck or wild boar.
