Mooli Launches in Soho

mooliOver the years, various restaurateurs have tried to do something just that little bit different with Indian food and tackle the fast food sector. The latest entrepreneurs to make a go of it are Sam Singh and Mathew Chandy, who have launched Molli's on Frith Street, in London's heady Soho area.

Not to be mistaken for mooli as in "radish", this small, casual dining outlet offers the concept of wraps - or home-made rotis as they put it filled with spiced chicken, Keralan beef, goat mooli, Goan pork, asparagus and potato, and finally, paneer mooli.

Thanks to ex-Benares chef Raju Rawat, who oversees the kitchen, the formula works though to varying degrees of success as some of the moolis - namely the beef and the pork - are more robust and flavoursome than their other counterparts. That said, all the moolis are freshly made and never less than interesting, are served warm and offer good value for money.

Home-made lassis are also served along with some supplementary items such as soup.

If there is a criticism to be made, it's merely that the variety of mooli fillings on the menu needs to be greater than what's on view.

Mooli's is at 50 Frith Street, W1D 4SQ. Tel: 020 7494 9075.
