Mothers Day at The Oak

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
Brilliant! Food was well presented, and totally delicious! The best Mothers Day meal I have ever had. Service was good. I can sincerely recommend it. The only thing I would say is that it echoed a bit, and felt a bit "airport loungy".

fantastic restaurant, highly recommended

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful
This is a modern and sophisticated restaurant whilst still being comfortable and relaxing.
There was a good variety of choices on the menu and were all of a high standard. The food is also locally sourced.
We were welcomed with a warm greeting and the staff were very attentive throughout the meal.
We would highly recommend this if you enjoy fine dining. It may cost a little more than an average restaurant but you will pay for superb quality and a very enjoyable experience.

Bad, bad food

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful
Terrible place. Awful food and terrible service and I have heard a few people say that so I know it wasn't just a bad experience.

Food was cold in the middle which suggested it had been frozen and not cooked fresh and just horrible bland and rubbery (both the meat and vegeatbles.

To wasn't all bad - toilets were nice !

I would avoid at all costs. There are plenty of nicer places locally.

Awful place - DON'T BOTHER !!!

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful
The only good thing about this place is the toilets.

Horrible, horrible food. Clearly from frozen, luke warm, rubbery with meat like leather. This was such a huge disappointment to us as we were celebrating. I came with a party of 9 and each meal was sub-standard so I wasn't just unlucky.

I had the fishcakes to start which was cold in the middle, the egg was undercooked with raw egg white (schoolboy error) and full of bones. The duck I chose for a main was overcooked yet cold ?! Seriously, if you're going to overcook something, at least serve it hot !! It came with what resembled half a jar of pickled cabbage which was needless to say - vile.

The real disappointment was their attitude. The owner has clearly taken on a bit more than he can chew with that place. Too big for him I think and too big to cater for the masses on a Saturday night. The previous week I had taken my family to the Harvester for a Sunday night meal and spend £19. It was a million times better food than this.

We complained on the night but didn't make a fuss, we just wanted hot food. We followed up with a letter to provide our feedback (as surely negative feedback is just as important to any business) but they didn't want to know. They clearly think they produce nice food. They don't.

Seriously - don't bother. It's not good.

Don't even bother - huge disappointment

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful
The toilets were the only nice thing about this place.

I have never been so disappointed with a restaurant in my life. I have eaten in some great places but to be fair if you want better food than this place, go to the Harvester down the road and spend £4.99 on a main course.

It's clearly too big for it's own good. The food is neither freshly produced nor tasty. There were 9 to my party and we all were served luke warm food.

What upset me the most about this place was their attitude. We complained and they are not prepared to discuss it.

My view is that the owner is inexperienced and taken on a bit more than he can chew with this place. He clearly has no customer experience as he out the phone down on me when I simply wanted to advise him on what was wrong with his food. Surely negative feedback is just as important ?

If you do eat here, avoid the fishcakes (frozen and full of bones), duck (well done and leathery yet cold?!) and chicken (just tasteless).

Perhaps the owner should have started off somewhere small as he obviously can't cope with the Saturday crowds in a place of that size. Seriously - take my word for it and don't bother.
