Voting open for 10th Curry Capital of Britain
This October, 20 cities will once again go head to head to compete for the title of Curry Capital of Britain.
It’s the time of the year when after Christmas, restaurants across the country will be having the busiest period of the year. Yes, it’s Valentine’s Day on Tuesday 14 February and scores of establishments will be ensuring that everyone looking for that special romantic evening get to dine in style with plenty of delicious cooking. So who’s doing what? Well, here’s a selection:
The Mango Lounge, which under the food consultancy of famed Indian cookery writer and broadcaster Mridula Baljekar, has turned out to become the best Indian restaurant in Windsor kicks off with a scrumptiously flavoursome menu at £29.90. Dishes include lobster kedgeree, the restaurant’s award winning tiger prawn martini, pan seared monkfish and duck keema nan along with desserts such as mango and passion fruit brulee with mango kulfi.
Britannia Spice, in Edinburgh, has a very reasonably priced three course menu at £18 with dishes including murgh chandi tikka and harey masaley ka gosht. The new find dining restaurant in Bath, The Mint Room, being hailed as the city’s finest Indian restaurant, has a Valentine’s menu available Sunday 12 to Tuesday 14 February with three courses at £34.95and two courses at £29.95 (starter and main or main and dessert) including a complimentary glass of champagne. Dishes include kasturi kebab, sea bass moilee and chocolate amarkand.
The Viceroy, in Derby, is offering a four course menu at £24.95 with items such as tandoori mushroom and lamb desi whilst Basmati restaurant, in Portsmouth, has a four course menu priced at £18, featuring dishes such as kumbi keema, shahi chicken korma and cinnamon pear with kulfi.
In London, Covent Garden’s Moti Mahal has a Valentine’s menu priced at £50, the famed Tamarind, in Mayfair, offers a menu at a hefty £68 with dishes including diced lobster tail with browned shallots, tomato and whole spices on garlic and burnt chilli flavoured crushed garden peas whilst the equally upmarket Mint Leaf, in the Haymarket, has a four course feast for two at £75, including complimentary champagne.
