Curry Corner misses out at awards

Cheltenham based F-Word semi-finalists, The Curry Corner, narrowly missed out on the coveted Restaurant of the Year Award at the recent World Food Awards.

The husband and wife team of Shamsul and Salaha Krori lost out to Mayfair based oriental eatery, Hakkasan – with Jamies’ Italian being the other runner-up.

The awards, which are now in their third year, are open to companies specialising, promoting or stocking products from Asian, Oriental, African, Afro-Caribbean, Middle-Eastern or Mediterranean countries.

One of the nights other big winners was the supermarket Tesco, who won two awards. The chain was presented with the East End Foods Best National Retailer award, fending off Asda for the top spot.

The company also walked away with the ASDA Product of the Year award for its newly launched African-Caribbean soft drinks brand Jammin’.

The Pataks’s Lifetime Achievement Award went to Stanley Tse, Chairman and founder of oriental food suppliers the SeeWoo Group – for services to the world food industry.
